Howard Jenkins

Howard has been involved in the softs markets for rather more years than he cares to remember. His first job in the city was a floor trader on the London Potato futures market for Lewis and Peat. After this very enjoyable apprenticeship, Howard moved within Lewis and Peat to become a physical coffee trader. This valuable experience enabled him to set up a small commodity company with a couple of colleagues buying coffee and cocoa from across West Africa and, in particular, Sierra Leone.

This intrepid and exciting life eventually came to an end when civil war engulfed the region. Looking for rather safer employment, Howard joined ING bank helping set up their newly established derivatives brokerage business. His affection for Dutch banks continued when he joined Fortis bank as a director of their commodity derivative business.

The lure of working for an independent broker saw him move to ADM Investor Services International in 2007. He built the sugar business, adding coffee on the way, into one of the most respected and successful brokerage desks in the business.

Howard has written reports and articles for many years on the softs markets – primarily from a fundamental perspective. He has made numerous presentations at various seminars and conferences throughout his career. He has occasionally appeared on CNBC and memorably made the main evening news in Vietnam discussing their coffee industry!
